5Simple and Powerful Strategies.Aug 29, 2010
Core idea: Habitual reactions to problems in life may actually be counter-productive. By learning to reduce your stress level by remaining calm, you could actually increase your productivity and your potential for a happier life.
Readability: I read this book in a flight from cover to cover. There are 100 mini chapters 2 to 3 pages long on average with clear language. It is also fun to read chapters randomly like a tarot reading of the day.
My Favorite chapters are:
Chapter 1: Don't Sweat the Small Stuff: You could be wasting much of your energy on matters that are not really important. If you can let go of these less consequential concerns, you can have more energy to enjoy life.
Chapter 6: Remind Yourself that When You Die, Your "In Basket" Won't Be Empty: There is more to life than making sure that every item on your to-do list is accomplished. This achievement should not be the ultimate goal of your life.
Chapter 16: Ask Yourself the Question, "Will This Matter a Year from
Now?": The emotional energy expended may be more useful in other important matters.
Chapter 37: Choose Being Kind over Being Right: That the other is wrong does not imply that you are right. It is more rewarding to be kind than to be right.
Chapter 53: See the Glass as Already Broken (and Everything Else Too): Expect things to break. Expect things to end. Through this, you will not overreact when they do. Nothing lasts forever.
Chapter 61: Read Articles and Books with Entirely Different Points of View
from Your Own and Try to Learn Something: The experience will broaden you. It will help you to relate better with others.
Chapter 76: Get Comfortable Not Knowing: No one can know everything. It is alright not to know.
Chapter 99: Schedule Time for Your Inner Work: Make a daily appointment with yourself to spend time just for you.

I highly recommend this book.

5BOOK REVIEWJul 29, 2010
THIS BOOK IS VERY SHORT WITH SHORT CHAPTERS, BUT WHAT PUNCH IT CARRIES. IF YOU ARE OVERWHELMED WITH LIFE AND THINK THERE IS NO ANSWER, READ THIS BOOK. IT TOUCHES ALMOST EVERY LIFE PROBLEM AND TEACHES YOU THAT PROBLEMS CAN BE OVERCOME AND LIFE IS NOT SO OVERWHELMING AFTER ALL.

4Don't Sweat The Small Stuff - And It's All Small StuffJul 01, 2010
"Don't Sweat The Small Stuff" by Richard Carlson is an easy and insightful read that will encourage you not to get so worked up over life's issues and struggles. Things will never be completely perfect for an extended period of time, so we have to get used to it!

Some of the things covered include:

1. Do not interrupt others when they are talking to you.
2. Do something nice for someone and do not tell anyone about it.
3. Choose your battles wisely.
4. Become more patient.
5. Seek first to understand others.
6. Learn to live in the present moment.
7. Practice humility.
8. Relax and enjoy some solitude.
9. Stop blaming others.
10. Be happy where you are.

These are just a few of the many topics covered. The book is around 240 pages and contains around 100 themes that are 2-3 pages each.

Much of the insights and advice are practical and common sense. However, it does not hurt to be reminded!

Read and enjoy!

Recommended.

Great book. Nice when these type of books are short and sweet. I listen to it over & over, always picking up a new hint that I missed previousely. Just have to put into practice this logical information. I recommend it to everybody who's fading away at the moment.
